• Three aspects of being/self
1. Mental – Mind
2. Physical – Body
3. Spiritual – Spirit
• The mind is ruled by logic and is expressed through intelligence
• The body is ruled by nature and is expressed through physical sensation
• The spirit is ruled by emotion and is expressed through art (*may need to be redefined -> thought process -> “the spirit is ruled by _______ and is expressed through emotion”) (*potentially usable words: love, morality, subjective beliefs)
• Combinations of different aspects of being lead to other expressions -> ex. (mind + spirit leads to wisdom), (mind + body leads to knowledge), (mind + body leads to psychology)
• (*note to self: look into the holy trinity for explanations)
• This model of being explains the “we are made in God’s image” -> just as God is made up of 3 individual aspects – the father (mind), the son (body), and the holy spirit (spirit)
• A less religious analogy: similarities to how computers works – mind = operating system, body = hardware, and spirit = user
Interesting/related questions
• How does this model of being relate to identity?
• How can this model be applied to my current understanding of personalities?
• How does philosophy fit into this model? Is philosophy closely tied to one part of being, or is it the result of all parts of being coming together?
