A government bathed in corruption will create a system where the only way to be successful is to be corrupt. Even if a person begins with good and noble intentions, by the time they reach the top they either have been corrupted or will quickly be gotten rid of. Innocence and greatness rarely coexist.
That’s why I have an inherent distrust of politicians. When it comes to average people, I’m aware they can be terrible, but I try to assume the best until they prove otherwise. With politicians, however, I assume the worst, and if they want support, they have an obligation to prove otherwise through their actions, not words.
