• Basically comes down to “who you are” vs “what you are” (or definite vs conditional i.e. “you will be x” vs “if you do this, you will be x”)
• Inspired by LoZ OoT (Zelda, ganon, and link)
• There are 2 types of prophesied people
• The first group are pre-ordained from birth. Whether or not they choose to follow their destiny, no one but them can fill that prophesied role. In LoZ, this would be characters like Zelda (and arguably Ganondorf). Hylia reincarnates in the royal family line, so the only one who can embody her spirit is Zelda
• The second group would be those, who through their unique life experience, meet the requirements to fill a prophesied role. Any individual could become the “prophesied hero,” but whomever that person is, they have to have acquired the necessary skills. Link would be the of this. My reasoning for this comes from how the Triforce splits up. When Ganondorf touches the Triforce, it splits and goes to those who embody each part. My theory is that the Triforce sought out the most courageous person, choosing the as the destined hero. If link would not have left the forest and gained the courage in the dungeons, I don’t believe he would have received it.
• Basically, the “reincarnation is the hero’s spirit” or whatever is different to the reincarnation of hylia.
• I’m not certain which group Ganondorf would fall under. I could see arguments for both.
• One thing to consider would be how Demise is reincarnated. Is/was demise a god-like being like hylia, or was he merely a physical manifestation of the evil in the world.
• If he was not an actual and unique being, then similar to how the reincarnation of the hero can be anyone with enough cultivated courage, likewise the reincarnation of demise could be anyone with enough cultivated hate and evil
• Now that I think about it, there may be a third group (or even a sub group). In this, demise would be an actual god-like being, but rather being reincarnated through a bloodline, he is reincarnated by searching for a vessel capable of surviving his evil influence/possession
