I just realized that I haven’t been writing essays these past couple of years; I’ve been writing poetry. That’s why I’ve always been so particular with the words that I chose.
The style, the cadence, the structure, the look. That’s why all of it mattered. Because I was always trying to do something far greater than tell you what I felt.
Anyone can tell you what they’re thinking.
But, I can make you feel what I’m thinking.
I guess my goal when I write isn’t to evoke sympathy, but rather empathy.
(As a side-note: I kinda hate myself. Not because I’m upset for any reason that I’ve been unwittingly writing poetry.
It’s because the first thought I had after this realization is “I’m a poet, and I didn’t even know it!”)
