Everything is a derivative of past experiences. Every story has been told; only the settings and characters’ names change. However, children are unaware of the derivative nature of narrative and art, for they lack the experience to be aware of the inspiration that led to this specific iteration of the story.
The feeling of nostalgia for childhood experiences, shows, books, etc., is not a result of the fact that the stories made in that time were any more unique or better than in present day. We are not nostalgic for our childhood experiences; we’re nostalgic for experiencing something truly new and unique to us for the first time.
