Understanding Confession

I've heard people say 
 "Confession is dumb 
   And for stupid people Who 
    Don't realize they don't need 
     A priest to be forgiven..." 

And I fully agree with them 

Then they go on to say 
 "...and it's useless, so 
    We should just 
     Get rid of it" 

But then I tell them Confession 
Was made for people like you 
And they don't seem to like 
When I tell a Truth that 
Makes them feel stupid
