Very few are evil incarnate. But so many allow themselves to become puppets of evil. “The road to hell is paved with good intentions.” If we let even a speck of evil into our hearts, then we will end up as far from truth as possible.
Very few desire to be evil, but so many are seduced by it. Tricked by its posture. Perverted by its desires. A drop of black ink will turn all white into gray. The danger of gray is that eventually you lose the capability of discerning between the two. Everything merely “is,” so everything is allowed.
Reality always exists, but we decide what color it reflects.
How frustrating it must have been for those great philosophers. They experienced truth, but knew it was too much to handle. They wanted to share it with the world, but the world has shown a consistent rejection of absolute truth.
So many philosophers must lie; not because they don’t know the truth, nor that they disagree with. But because they realized it is impossible to place an unwilling person in the infinity of truth. They wish to lead all to infinity, but that is a decision for the individual to make. So even though they know the way, they must settle with pointing towards the right direction, and hoping the individual finds their own way.
The philosophy of Plato’s cave comes to mind. The shadows on the wall are true, but they are not complete. Instead showing them the true form of the shadows, he had to settle with gifting them the truth of the shadows: that they are incomplete; mere distortions of the truth. But even though he provided this wisdom, he can not force others to accept it. Only the individual can decide to leave the cave, and face the overwhelming illumination of unfiltered truth.
Leaving darkness and facing light blinds many, but if you are willing to live in the blinding light, to continue to walk when you know not where your next step will take you, eventually you will see a world you never knew existed. Eventually you find a world that you can never return from. A world you never wish to return from.
