“average humans and their a average lives”

Meeting a great human is life-altering;
an experience of illumination –
even the blind can see their light.
There are very few great humans.
The greats are one in a million, if that.
But the lack of greats is what makes them great!

Because think of all the humans you know.
Your fathers, mothers,
children, and siblings,
your friends, lovers,
rivals, inspirers.
All average, yet even heaven couldn’t persuade me to trade.

And we all have at least one person
that reminds us it’s worth it,
that eternity can wait at least another day.
And even still that one person is average;
they’re all nobodies to be forgotten to time,
but not to you.

You may object,
but tell yourself the truth.
There’s nothing special about you,
nor uniqueness in your love of Ruth.
Still, heaven’s gates turn into cells,
an eternal paradise closer to hell.
all you want is just one more second
in that ordinary love
That becomes special when shared
between you ordinary two.

That’s why people are great!
Because if we’re being honest,
life can suck a lot of the time.
It can be good, sure.
Good parts and the bad parts
make the whole life average.

But everyday when I go to sleep,
I choose to wake up here
in this same average life
Again and again and again.

I say I want my dreams to never end,
lying by calling death my friend.
it’s so much easier when I’m asleep.
I say I’d rather sleep all day,
luckily average people help me up anyway.

Because not even a perfect dream
can compete with an average life.
No matter how uncomfortable your chair,
you’ll always have a shelf to rest your strife.
That can’t be said of imaginary thrones
found in clouds and the ends of rainbows.

“Ordinary people”

Meeting a great human is life-altering;
an experience of illumination – you know
Enlightenment;
even the blind can see them shine.
There are very few great humans.
one in a million, if that.
But they don’t lack greatness,
for goodness is their standard.

Think of all the people you know.
the fathers, mothers,
sisters, and brothers;
your friends, lovers,
rivals, and inspirers.
We all have at least one person
that reminds us it’s worth it,
that eternity can wait at least another day.
And even still that one person is average;
they’re all nobodies to be forgotten to time,
but not to you.
You may object,
but tell yourself the truth.
There’s nothing special about you,
nor unique is your muse.
If we’re being honest,
life will suck many a time.
It can be good, sure.
Better described as average.

But everyday when I go to sleep,
I choose to wake up here
in this same average life
Again and again and again.
“It’s so much easier when I sleep.
I hope my dreams to never end,”

playing pretend with Death like a friend.

Still, heaven’s gates turn to cells,
an eternal paradise closer to hell.
You would trade eternity’s Serenity
for one last moment in that ordinary life
that found so extraordinary a Love.

Because not even a perfect dream
can compete with an average life.
No matter how uncomfortable your chair,
you’ll always have a shelf to rest your strife.
That can’t be said of imaginary thrones
found in clouds and the ends of rainbows.
