Writing – Finding The Perfect Words

I normally write philosophy, but I’ve started meandering into poetry and narrative. I don’t consider myself a naturally gifted writer. I’m just patient enough to wait for the perfect words to reveal themselves.

I’m so particular with words because I feel physically uncomfortable if my writing doesn’t flawlessly represent me. The tone; the cadence – everything must precisely fit together. If any aspect of my writing is out of harmony, it will feel unbalanced – as will I.

If I don’t find the proper words, then those words will remain hidden in my mind – a tormenting ignorance, mocking my failures in discovering them. But when I do unearth those hidden treasures, the sensation is unmistakable.

It’s a release! A breath of fresh air; a sense of freedom that fills my very being! My will has broken from the chains of words, no longer a servant to language, but it’s master!

Recognizing My Writing – Poetry

I haven’t been writing essays
– At least not entirely –
These past couple of years;

I’ve been writing poetry!
That’s why I’ve always been so;
Particular with my words.

The flow;
The voice;
The cadence;
The structure;
The composition;

Why it all mattered!

I was always critical
Of every word I wrote
Because I was
Always
Doing something more;

Something greater.

Anyone can tell you their experience,
But I will make you feel my experience.

My goal isn’t to evoke sympathy,
But rather to inspire empathy.

Side-note: I kinda hate myself. Not because I’m upset for any reason that I’ve been unknowingly writing poetry.

It’s because the first thought I had after this realization is “I’m a poet, and I didn’t even know it!”
