Memory Cards

Describe an item you were incredibly attached to as a youth. What became of it?

I never really had anything that I was particularly attached to. Even as a kid, I wasn’t very materialistic. Sure, I wanted all the toys like any normal kid, but I never really experienced that formative bond with a stuffed animal, blanket, doll, etc.

If I had to choose something, it’d be my video games I had growing up. Not so much the games or systems specifically, as though I definitely would have had a meltdown if I lost or broke a system/game, I knew those were replaceable. What was really precious to me were the memory cards. I knew there plenty of identical systems & games out there, but there were only one copy of all my adventures in those games. So, what happened to them? I think I have a few buried somewhere that I could find, but funnily enough, I had forgotten they even existed. So I must not have missed them much.

Though I will say, the thing about losing memory is that all you’re left with after is the void to remember what used to be when you were young and happy.

  1. You remind me of the feeling when I need to save, and the memory card for my Playstation 1 already being full; the turmoil and dread of trying to decide if, and what to overwrite. Thank you for the walk down memory lane!

    1. I like to imagine all the characters from the different games saved on a memory card get to hang out with each other, instead of just being in an indefinite stasis, waiting for me to play their game again. And now that I think about it, that wouldn’t be a bad idea to write about.
