Musical Pre-Cognition

What’s a secret skill or ability you have or wish you had?

I feel the upcoming beats & rhythms a few measures before they play in the song – even songs I’ve never heard before.

One of my earliest memories is being in Church and singing the melody of one of the hymns before knowing how to read words, let alone read music. I just knew what to hum next because I could hear it right before it actually happened.

Now, my musical pre-cognition comes in the form of my dancing, mostly. This can look like dancing to a different part of the song I hear, but still in time with what’s playing. It gives it a feeling of the “row row row your boat” song where multiple sets are staggered to give that disorienting echo. Or it can look like a perfectly choreographed movement for a song I’ve never heard before.

I don’t know if this is the best explanation – actually, I know it’s pretty shitty. But see, the thing is – this isn’t actually for you. It’s for me to remember and expand on later. And it’s for Proof I’m not completely bullshitting you if I ever bring this up later.
