If you think about it
Names are a really hard concept
To teach someone without a full grasp of language
…
What inspired this thought
Is the idea of naming pets
We communicate with pets
Mainly through body language
Though, there are a few key words
Animals come to recognize through association
Simple words & commands
Like “treat” or “sit” or “walk”
But the thing with those words is
There are outside things to point to
Some action or object comes along with those words
But the thing about a name is
It’s only in association to the self
“Treat” “sit” & “walk” are all words I use all the time
Yet, I only say “Cirrus” when I’m talking to my cat
But, my cat doesn’t know that
My cat recognizes those few words
But the majority of what I say is gibberish
So, how exactly does my cat know her name?
Sure, I call her it often, but how does she know
That I’m addressing her with this particular sound?
…
The more I write about this
The more I realize I could go on way too long
Probably talking in circles for the majority
While jumping in between not fully cooked ideas
Though, realizing I’m probably looking too deep into it
So, I guess I’m just gonna leave it here for the moment
& let the question float in the aether in the meantime
