Random Thought #26: “Not Innocent”

The “Not Guilty” verdict is a seemingly antithetical statement to make from our legal system, and arguably proof of the inherent hypocrisy at its foundation. What I mean is, supposedly, everyone is “Innocent” until proven “Guilty.” So, if you’re “Not Guilty,” according to our legal system, you are by default “Innocent.” However, due to the inclusion of “Reasonable Doubt” mixed with society’s false narrative about “Fairness” – we refuse to acknowledge people we doubt with insufficient proof as “Innocent,” thus creating this third category of citizen labeled as “Not Guilty.”

And I’m not saying we should necessarily change this societal perspective distinguishing between “Innocent” & “Not Guilty.” You’ll never hear me argue that Diddy is innocent. It’s more that I believe we should reevaluate our legal language, make sure it actually reflects our ideals & intentions, and change whichever contradictions that exist which are bound to tie us up in knots by someone taking advantage of the loopholes.
