Random Thought #28: Old Vs New Money

I believe “trickle-down economics” could theoretically work with genuinely wealthy overlords. The kind of elite you’d describe as “Old Money,” because what “Old Money” really means is that these people were wealthy before the concept of “Money” even existed for the common man. “Old Money” isn’t afraid of losing money, because they genuinely believe that all money belongs to them, regardless of who holds it, because in a way, they’re right. Their existence validates Money, so they have no risk of losing something that doesn’t exist without their permission. So, they let it flow through the economy, not because they care about a fair distribution of wealth; they just know if they give the right people some of their money, they’ll do all the work to maintain the world around them.

So, why doesn’t “trickle-down economics” work? Because there’s too much “New Money” who bought their way into power. “New Money” are just poor people who happened to win life’s lottery and ended up with far more money than they’re actually worth. And you can tell, because they flaunt their wealth. Unlike Old Money, New Money doesn’t have that inherent base value to their being. They need outside validation via displays of wealth to prove they’re better than you, where Old Money couldn’t care less since they have no question that they’re the most valuable person in the room regardless of the company.

And that’s why New Money hoards their wealth. They know that the moment that they lose it, they lose everything that makes them worth anything, because at their foundation, they’re Poor in Spirit. So the only way to hide their insecurities is to cover themselves up with as much money as possible, then look down on anyone who doesn’t have as much as them. That’s why they feel naked the moment someone with a penny more than them walks into the room. Because their whole personality is being “the rich guy,” so if someone has more money than them, what does that make them? Nothing
