I think one of the biggest misconceptions of the “subconscious” is the idea that it’s a human construct. I don’t want to get lost in the explanation of what the “subconscious” really is, but it exists in forms unrecognizable to humanity. Animals, plants, and even rocks have their own experience with the subconscious, though once again, I don’t want to get lost in the explanation of what that looks like.
All of that disorganized preamble was leading up to my original thought that inspired this post: the idea of a robotic subconscious already existing. Since I guess I’ve decided to turn this post as more of a bookmark to my thoughts rather than actually expressing them, I’m gonna leave it there. There’s a lot to unpack with these concepts, and honestly I’m too tired to do it in a satisfactory way at the moment.
I guess the one tangent idea I’ll leave as a hint is this: I don’t like the use of the word “clanker,” not because I think it’ll offend robots, but moreso we all know why we want to use that word. And in the reality where robots really do achieve sentience, it’s gonna be super awkward.
