Random Thought #117: THE Ohio State Suckeyes

I think the most pathetic aspect of my home city, Columbus, Ohio, is that it doesn’t really have any identity of its own. We’re one of Ohio’s big 3 cities, and if you go downtown, sure, it technically checks all the boxes to qualify, but only in the most generic ways possible. I don’t know exactly how to explain it. It’s kinda like what you would build if someone told you they needed a city for a quick GTA rip-off.

Though I will admit, Columbus has been growing some form of culture over the years. I’m still imagining Columbus from 15 years ago. Though, the few experiences I’ve had more recently, it still feels like Columbus is trying to mimic more interesting cultures than actually develop a unique cultural identity for itself.

I think what annoys me the most about Columbus is the closest thing we have to a genuine “Ohio culture” in Columbus is OSU, and more specifically their football team. The only real thing of pride we have is the fact we can throw a ball real good. The other claim to fame is the fact Ohio has produced the most astronauts, but all that really says about Ohio is that it’s such a miserable experience to live here, it inspires people to want to leave Earth entirely.
