As any sports fan can attest, taking the piss on rival teams. It doesn’t matter how good they play since they’ll always suck from your perspective. And you know what? There’s something really freeing about having an avenue to express unashamed bias. Half the fun of the sport isn’t even the game, but the interactions of everyone around it. It’s a place of fun, so you know not to take too seriously when they talk trash, because they’re not really trying to put you down; people just like to play-fight sometimes.

That being said, there’s something special about those players who transcend those petty dressing-room lines. Those truly legendary players who, regardless of the team you support, Ü always hold them in high regard.
As a United fan, there’s a few candidates who I believe transcend that Hate: Eric Cantona, Roy Keane, Ryan Giggs, & Wayne Rooney being top contenders. Though, they all have reasons why someone could hate them. So if I had to choose 1 Man U player, it would probably be Paul Scholes.

Before I leave this half-finished, I wanted to mention the players from other teams that inspired this post:
Steven Gerard (Liverpool), Thierry Henry (Arsenal), Didier Drogba (Chelsea), David Silva (Manchester City)
