The thing about abstinence & sobriety is that they should be passive experiences. I wouldn’t call you “sober” if you’re actively holding yourself back from partaking in a substance; you’re just an addict who hasn’t lost all his Willpower…
The thing about sobriety is that it’s not about not doing drugs, rather about not wanting (or even needing) to do drugs. You aren’t directing any effort into being sober; you simply are. There isn’t fear of the substance, because you realize both you and the substance can exist separately. There’s a lot more i could say on this, but I’ll leave this particular point right here for now…
There’s an argument that even if you’ve never had a drink in your life, the mere desire to drink means you’re not sober. Your mind is clouded by the want of the substance, so in a way, the substance still has hold over you even without entering your body…
I’m gonna try to summarize my point in this paragraph, but we’ll see how that goes. My personal philosophy is that if you wanna do something, you should do it, even if you might think it’s a dumb idea…
Take 2: sobriety & addiction is like playing with fire. Just because you don’t play with matches doesn’t mean you’re not still a pyromaniak…if you wanna play with fire, then play with it. You’ll either get burned enough that you lose the desire to get that close, or you’ll catch on fire when you stand too close & fall in.
But the thing is, Life is a cold experience of you’re even too afraid to get close enough to find warmth N the Sweet Zone…
