Random Thought #282: WelCüM 2; The<Sweet>Machine (Dean Discovers Prog. Tho’t)

I had a coworker, though I don’t think he’s with the company anymore. Nothing official has been said, but let’s just say he’s off the schedule. There’s a good reason he couldn’t stay, but the real reasons weren’t as flattering…

But let’s get to the point I wanted to make. He was someone who had a very lofty perspective of himself & his capabilities, even though he was working 3rd shift at a gas station (Adderall does that to people…). As a failed engineer, I get his perspective, as I’ve held it before; it’s just not a very flattering angle from those with their feet on the ground. We’re not envious of your “greatness,” Alexander; you’re just blocking my sunlight…(side note: he claimed to be related to Nero, thinking I’d be impressed by his royal lineage; let’s just say I’m more of an Aurelius man, my self…)

That wasn’t really the point I wanted to make; just some more background to establish the shot. It’s something he said multiple times that always reminded me of the saying: “it’s better to remain quiet and let them think you know nothing, rather than open your mouth and make them certain.” There are a lot of things he said that I could use as example, but I’ll go with the one that went something like:

“We’re the greatest generation because we’re the first to figure it all out…” then go on to explain how the FBI is trying to suppress because they’re incompetent & we’re actually able to solve all their crimes faster than them, then talk about the Epstein Files like he uncovered them himself. Soon he’ll get bored and talk about weird religious theories about jews & soul transfer that shows he’s never considered outside perspective (FYI, he’s some form of Christian; surprise, surprise…). He’ll casually mention that Space isn’t real like it’s a fact, then when he notices he’s losing your attention, he’ll vaguely mention he “solved the DaVinci Code” 1 time when he got high, but never expound further than that..

I guess I ended up doing many of the “lot of things” as examples, though believe me, there’s plenty more. Either way, most of the Times he was going on about how great our generation is for solving all of Life’s mystery, I was thinking to my self, “¿Has this guy ever listened to Pink Floyd?”
