Becalmed Like

Becalmed like this aloe balm
Applied to burns, on your palms
Or neosporin for when you're stung
& breathing exercises, for your lungs

Becalmed like this lit fuse of a bomb
Smothered with fingers full of aplomb
Because wet with spit from his tongue
& calloused from the guitar he strung

Becalmed like when we're all N all
Free to fall, then roll like balls
Having fun, though have just begun
Our cleaning up of mud which clung

Becalmed like the church psalms
That are playing over intercoms
Or even a mother's lullaby sung
To a sobbing child, still young
