So, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure is one of my favorite stories of all time. Araki might be the single largest influence to me actually writing.
I’m not gonna comment more on that at the moment, just mention his incorporation of music in his storytelling really inspired me to actually begin writing; kinda how I recognized the bridges in art…Tite Kubo & Bleach had a similar impact, if not subtler…
Back to the point
One of my favorite parts of JJBA is part 4, for many reasons. Though, I wanted to comment on the villain, and how his name & music motifs are such a stroke of genius.
JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure Pt. IV is titled Diamond Is Unbreakable, and is named after Pink Floyd’s Shine On You Crazy Diamond. I’m not gonna talk about Pink Floyd right now, rather David Bowie & Queen.
The Villain, named Kira, is the spitting image of David Bowie, so much so, they altered how he looked slightly in the Anime to avoid a potential lawsuit from Bowie’s estate or whatever. Side note, the anime has to change a lot of the best parts of the naming convention because of money, though I do admit, “zipper man” is hilarious.
Ok, back to the point, the main villain is Bowie, and his §tand is named “Killer Queen” & gets upgraded to “Bites The Dust.”
I’m sure you get it.
