This is random shout-out to one of my favorite soccer players of all time.
I’m especially partial to left-footed wingers; Giggs is another favorite of mine, and so I always dreamed Bale as the perfect successor to him at United, though reality has its own story to tell…
So I just settled for always buying him in Fifa career mode where he was an absolute BEAST to play with. Speed is pretty OP, and his was something else…
Though, let’s get to the point I wanted to make. I really do believe Bale when he says he, “overachieved.” There’s a lot of great wingers out there. Sure, he’s special to me for selfish reasons, so I wouldn’t forget him. But really, I could see someone like him easily forgotten by ability alone. Like, the thing he’s “remembered” for, or at least if… whatever.. they made fun of him because he liked to golf. That’s what he could have been remembered for: the soccer player who golfed.
But he’s not really remembered for that, because he achieved so much more than was honestly expected from him. He started off as a left-back at Tottenham, yet ended up scoring one of the greatest goals in Champions League history with Real Madrid.

The Real point (pun intended) i wanted to make is the fact how Bale was a key part in one of Madrid’s most successful eras in history; he won 5 Champions Leagues, not to mention his domestic titles. Yet, with all of that, people were still complaining he wasn’t giving enough to Soccer.

It kinda reminds me of that joke about how, “the reward for overachieving at work is more work…”
